Lessons, Life

great post on personal bible study…

i just realized that i’ve lapsed posting for a month.. i must confess that June flew by more quickly that I could have ever imagined.. but i stumbled on this great post that i would love to recommend..

On Personal Bible Study by Tim Challies

i believe it echoes the hearts of many Christians out there.. we need so much more of this book that God has so graciously given to us and sadly, it is so easy to leave it aside the first chance we get…

Family, Life

looking back at 5 years.. and looking forward at many more.. Lord Willing..

So I’ve been, by the grace of God, married to the woman of my dreams for 5 whole years! It’s amazing to take a glance back and see how far God has led us. Frankly, I might not be one that remembers every detail of my wedding but I do remember that God’s grace was a BIG theme in how He had led us to the aisle. It has definitely been His grace has continued to sustain us throughout these 5 years..

Life, Ministry, thoughts

Under the Radar…

it seems to me that more messages are being sent subliminally or “under the radar”…

i just chanced about this quote from Oprah Winfrey “Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody is going to know whether you did it or not.” On first glance it really does sound right but i believe that on closer inspection, it might not be the case..

hear me out for a moment.. Humour me..

Real integrity is doing the right thing! I agree with that.. I was brought up with the definition that “it was doing the right thing even when no one was watching” but here we see Oprah stating that it is doing the right thing “knowing that nobody is going to know…” There is a significant difference.. “When no one is watching..” gives the impression that people might not know but “nobody is going to know” seems to determine that no one is going to know… This ignores important assumptions in my biblical worldview..

so here’s why i think it’s sending an “under the radar” message..

Proverbs 15:3 reads “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.”

There is someone that is going to know, that some is God, and integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching, because we love God and want to bring Him glory in whatever way we can. I don’t want to assume too much in Miss Winfrey’s quote but I believe that we must be actively thinking about the messages that we receive from the media and compare that back to the Bible.

let’s be on the alert for messages that fly “under the radar”…
